About TES Bretby
Quality
TES Bretby has always made data quality its highest
priority, recognising that the information generated
may be required to protect human health and the
environment. The company has installed systems
and procedures to control quality at every stage
of its operations.
Sophisticated systems have been devised to track
the location of samples, schedule tests, and to
monitor project status. Dedicated staff are responsible
for monitoring, maintaining and improving quality.
Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) are employed
wherever possible for initial method validation
and assist fully blind evaluation of laboratory
performance. Reference Materials (RMs) are used
on a daily basis to monitor continuing satisfactory
method performance at specified frequencies.
Proficiency Testing Schemes
TES Bretby has participated in the 'CONTEST'
scheme, administered by the Laboratory of the
Government Chemist (LGC), since the scheme was
first introduced. CONTEST was established by the
Department of Trade and Industry to establish
the principles of the VAM (Valid Analytical Measurement)
programme within the context of soil contamination
testing. TES Bretby plays an active role in the
work of the CONTEST subcommittees which are voluntary
groups, working to establish and improve standard
methods for the analysis of specific soil contaminants
such as cyanide and PAHs.
The company also participates in the 'Aquacheck'
scheme administered by the Water Research Centre
(WRc) and is approved(*) by National Grid Transco plc for the analysis
of contaminated soil at former coal carbonisation
and manufactured gas plant sites.
The data generated in these schemes demonstrates
that TES Bretby is consistently amongst the most
reliable laboratories taking part. A summary of
this data can be made available to customers on
request.
For the performance of workplace monitoring services,
TES Bretby participates in the Workplace Analysis
Scheme for Proficiency (WASP) organised by the
Health and Safety Executive.
(*) Approval is based upon satisfactory performance
in the National Grid Transco plc PT scheme, conducted twice a year.
