Soil Mechanics' New Test for Thermal Conductivity is Industry first

Clients of Soil Mechanics designing ground sourced heat pump systems (GSHP) can look forward to benefiting from the geotechnical industry's first test cell specifically designed to measure the thermal properties of soils.

Known as a Thermal Conductivity Cell (TCC), the new technique uses an insulated cylindrical chamber to test soil samples obtained from routine site investigations under optimum test conditions which ensures that the properties remain constant throughout the test.

Research and development of the TCC has been undertaken by Newcastle University who designed the test so that geothermal parameters can be measured more efficiently and effectively to aid the design of geothermal systems used to heat and cool buildings as a cost efficient, renewable energy source.

Further details and rates can be obtained through our Doncaster Laboratory.
