Castleford Bay

Soil Mechanics have recently completed an overwater ground investigation contract at Castleford on the River Aire, West Yorkshire. The project was carried out under the direction of Soil Mechanics Project Manager Russell Hall using a Mowlem Marine spud-legged pontoon, Soil Mechanics Beretta T41 rig with supporting safety beaver boat were used on this challenging project.

Castleford Bay Ground Investigation Phase 2 was a £45,000 inshore contract carried out in August 2005 which was competed on time for City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council. The project was for a waterfront development, including a proposed pedestrian bridge across the River Aire as part of ongoing urban regeneration. The investigation comprises of, 3no Rotary cored boreholes to 20m below bed level, drilled from a Mowlem Marine pontoon in fast moving water beneath a weir structure. The investigation for the proposes Castleford Bay development, valued at FASK – was for client City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.
